About 6 weeks ago I replaced my AC compressor in my 2012 Mercedes GL 350 Bluetec (X164) and I didn't film it, but because it is such a helpful vehicle, it decided to help me remedy that by spitting its contents out during the hottest week of the summer. Parts arrived in time for last weekend and this video includes tips and tricks for replacing an AC compressor on a 3.0L Mercedes OM642 diesel e...

How to remove a surface scrape or mirror scratch from a car

A coworker had someone in a parking lot scrape a mirror all the way down the side of her Enclave leaving a nasty streak / scrape. I offered to help remove it quickly and easily. I packed some lacquer thinner (Klean-Strip brand from Home Depot - www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip-1-qt-Lacquer-Thinner-QML170/100127500), a rag and a microfiber cloth in my trunk and was able to remove the whole scrape...
In vehicle GM 3.6L VVT timing chain replacement (code P0008) teardown gotchas and hints
Переглядів 407 тис.7 років тому
This video was taken following the teardown of the right side of the engine and removal of the timing cover. It is not intended to be a step by step guide, rather a set of "gotchas" I encountered during the teardown. The vehicle (a 2009 Buick Enclave) has a check engine light with a code of P0008, indicating timing chain wear, and the vehicle demonstrates poor performance when driving. From my ...

    Yes bro I’m telling its way better to drop the entire subframe with the engine. What your going through I would never recommend to anyone to do. Yes 2500 to 3500 is about right. I replaced everything that would give me hell to get to, everything from the water pump to cam sensor to the alternator spark plug power steering hoses lines man anything that would be a pan in the ass to get to. Gm knows this is a concern

    having done mine now with this engine two things. The rear power steering bolt can be accessed underneath the vehicle. you need to remove the exhaust piping coming from the Cat converters and the heat shields but you can get to it from underneath and can see what you are doing. It's a pain but at least you're not blind and can have access to see what you are doing. Two, I as able to get the timing cover out and in (with rtv on it) without taking out the cam phasers. It's a pain and you have to be very careful but I was able to do it without getting RTV all over the place.

    Hey bud, nice video- thanks for the detailed explanation of the tools needed. Helped me greatly in a situation where i was stranded! With regard to your belt issues. Check that your belts match the pulley grooves. There are different # splined belts for these. I would imagine if they mated incorrectly you might get wear issues! Also, i had the belt tension bracket on mine fail, which I believe has a bulletin and updated part.

    Autozone rents a low profile puller Part #57187 for the crank pulley. It allows the crank pulley to come off without dropping the engine. Makes the job considerably easier so you don't have to remove motor mounts.

      I looked at this puller online. It appears it only works for harmonic bouncers with tapped holes already in it. I don't have any holes in mine so I don't see how this could work. I have a 2010 Buick enclave.

    Install entire timing kit. Dont buy local, shop wanted to buy NAPA kit,...it was around $1100-1200 for whole kit. I bought entire cloyes kit for around $800. I wasnt sure if you did, but if you remove lower engine mounts around font(timing side) you can use jack and block to lightly tip front of engine up creating a few more inches of room and wont need to remover phasers at beginning .

    I am getting ready to do this job on mine. I have done many compressor jobs but not on a GL. Can the receiver/drier be removed without removing the front bumper? Also, those air powered vacuum pumps do not pull nearly a deep enough vacuum for this job. You need at last 29" of vacuum and I usually pull it for an hour to make sure all the moisture is out of the system.

    • @GeorgeKistler
      @GeorgeKistler 2 роки тому

      I don't remember pulling the bumper cover for the second time I did the job. The receiver/drier It is held on with 10s as I recall, 2 tabs with body clips on the receiver/drier, and a 4 or 6mm head M5 Allen for the lines. The first time I did the job the allen socket was corroded badly and stripped out. That resulted in pulling the bumper cover to get space for vise grips. I kept my open time to a minimum and the little pneumatic unit got the system down to -23 psi and kept sicking for 15 min. The ac system did fine until the car was totaled.

    Hi George I’m having the same issue. Now 3 belts in 2 months. I see I got a bad idler pulley. and I notice I bit of noise on my water pump. I have a question. Did you also changed the belt tensioner? and. Did this work fixed your issues? Just wondering if my balancer has an issue. Of small wobble. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

    • @GeorgeKistler
      @GeorgeKistler 2 роки тому

      Mine started shredding belts first when the PS pump seized (which wasn't a particularly run experience or job that I did not video). Like you, on the 3rd belt I took more drastic action and replaced the WP and idlers. I did not replace the tensioner as it was holding tension within range and the pulley felt smooth and quiet.

    Hello George, good video, but missing some important parts, like the actual removal of the compressor after removing all the screws. It seems there is not enough room to pull it out. Also missing the part where the condenser is removed. Any chance that you would have that? Thanks.

    • @GeorgeKistler
      @GeorgeKistler 2 роки тому

      Hi Paul, I no longer have the GL, but I will try to answer your questions from memory. I removed my AC compressor from the front of the engine. You can fold the hose to get under the power steering pump and turn/rotate it out. As for the condenser, I replaced only my receiver dryer (flushed the condenser with cleaner). To fully remove the condenser it is best to pull the front bumper cover, remove the upper radiator support, remove the e-fan, and there is a 10mm nut that releases the drier lines from the condenser. Unbolt the radiator and lift it off its mounts so you can push it towards the engine, the condenser is clipped to the radiator and lifts up. Not super easy - hope this helps.
